The Mission
SDG 14 β adopted in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development β aims to prevent and reduce marine pollution, protect marine and coastal ecosystems, and ensure sustainable fishing practices globally.
π
Global Relevance
Oceans cover over 70% of our planet. They regulate climate, produce half the oxygen we breathe, and support over 3 billion livelihoods worldwide. Yet today, over 90% of fish stocks are overexploited or fully exploited.
π
Historical Context
Since the Industrial Revolution, ocean temperatures have risen by 0.13Β°C per decade. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch β twice the size of Texas β formed over just 60 years of plastic use. The crisis is recent, and reversible.
